Academic Internship Opportunities

The purpose of the Lake Worth PD internship program is to provide a lasting experiential learning process to college students interested in careers within the field of Criminal Justice and Criminology. The internship program allows our police department to provide this experience while meeting the city's and police department strategic objectives. This internship is 125 hours and is intended to satisfy 3 credit hours. The LWPD internship is designed to be flexible, taking into account the student’s course work, while providing a challenging, project-oriented internship.


Minimum Qualifications

Applicant cannot be under criminal investigation for any offense, no class B or above convictions, must be enrolled as a junior or senior at an accredited university, must be enrolled in an internship class at an accredited university, must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and must not be on any form of academic or scholastic probation, be a U.S. citizen, possess a valid driver’s license, and be able to pass a drug screening.


Application Process 

  1. Complete application and resume
  2. 1-page letter expressing why the student would like to be an intern for the Lake Worth Police Department and what the student hopes to gain from the internship,
  3. Letter of approval from the university internship coordinator indicating the student will be receiving college credit for the internship hours completed
  4. Submit all of the documentation listed above along to LT J.T. Manoushagian via e-mail at by the application deadline (see below).


Supporting Documents

The student will need to provide a copy of a valid driver's license, copy of social security card, certified copy of birth certificate or naturalization documents and an unofficial transcript. 


Selection Process

After submitting a complete application and supporting documents, the student’s application will be reviewed by the police internship committee. The top internship candidates will be contacted for an interview. Following the interview, the top candidates will be extended a conditional internship pending the successful completion of a background check and drug screening.

The deadline to submit applications for consideration of the Spring 2019 Internship is close of business, December 10, 2018. Interviews will be conducted over winter break via Skype. Applicants will receive notification of their selection or rejection by Friday, January 4, 2019. A one-day intern orientation for the selected applicants will take place prior to the start of spring classes. The internship will officially begin on January 28, 2019.
