Patrol Officer

Compensation: $50,000 - $60,000 DOQ (FLSA Non-Exempt) Full Time w/benefits; employer paid Health, Dental, Vision, Life insurance, & FreshBenies; TMRS participation of 6% with a 2/1 match (7% with a 2/1 match effective January 1, 2019); paid vacation & sick days; 11 paid holidays.  In addition, the department offers incentive pay for specific certifications, education, and longevity.


Hours: 12-hour shifts (84 hours every two weeks) scheduled as needed, nights, weekends, and holidays


Reports To: Patrol Sergeant - Field Operations


General Summary: The City of Lake Worth has a population of approximately 4,600 permanent residents and is located in northwestern Tarrant County.  Lake Worth is uniquely diverse with a bustling business district along State Highway 199 (Jacksboro Hwy) and many well-established residential areas.


The field operations division consists of uniformed officers working around the clock to suppress crime and promote the safety of the Lake Worth community.  Officers are highly capable, diverse and take tremendous pride in serving the Lake Worth community with excellence.  The division is organized into four shifts staffed with a patrol supervisor and three officers.  Each officer is assigned to one of three beats and the supervisor acts as a roving officer - responding to calls as needed.  The division is overseen by the field operations division commander.

Description: Enforces federal, state, and local laws and ordinances under general direction.  Performs various duties to support law enforcement activities as well as provide service to the citizens in an efficient and professional manner.


Minimum Requirements: 

  • must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application
  • must be a United States Citizen
  • must have a High School Diploma or GED
  • must have and maintain a valid Texas driver license or be able to obtain a Texas driver license
  • must currently be licensed or able to be licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and be in good standing
  • must be declared physically sound and free from any defect which may adversely affect the performance of the duties of a police officer
  • must pass a written test and oral review board
  • must pass an extensive background check, psychological, medical exam, and drug screen.
  • must be able to successfully complete the Lake Worth Police Department's field training program
  • must not have a prior Brady violation


Physical Abilities: 

  • Must possess the visual acuity to operate a computer terminal and city vehicle
  • Walk, stand, sit, or run for prolonged periods of time
  • Regularly push, pull, lift, and/or carry up 10 pounds
  • Frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds
  • Occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 100 pounds or more
  • Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist
  • Operate office equipment including use of a computer keyboard
  • Speak and hear to exchange information in English
  • Operate a vehicle to travel to various locations
  • Operate and use specialized law enforcement tools and equipment including guns and handcuffs
  • Restrain or subdue individuals

Division Chief/Operations

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, or related field; Texas Fire Chief’s Academy Graduate (preferred); Minimum of ten (10) years fire service experience, with five (5) years as an officer


Licenses and Certificates: Valid Class B Exempt Texas driver license or CDL; T.C.F.P Certified Advanced Fire Fighter; T.C.F.P Certified Basic Fire Inspector (Preferred); T.C.F.P Certified Fire Officer II (Officer III & IV Preferred); T.C.F.P Certified Fire Instructor II; T.C.F.P Certified Hazmat Technician or obtain within 1 year; TDHHS Certified Basic EMT (Paramedic Preferred)


Description: Plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the emergency and non-emergency activities of the fire suppression company; commands emergency response scenes; directs and performs a variety of staff support functions.  This position receives supervision and direction from the Fire Chief.  This position exercises overall supervision of departmental activities and personnel in the absence of the Fire Chief.  This position generally works Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Street Maintenance

Department: Public Works

Compensation: $14.34 per hour or higher DOQ w/benefits; employer paid Health, Dental, Vision, Life, & FreshBenies with TMRS participation of 6% with a 2/1 match (7% with a 2/1 match effective January 1, 2019); paid vacation & sick days: and 11 paid holidays.

Education & Experience: High School diploma or GED;  construction-related experience is preferred; experience with a backhoe, crack sealer, dump truck, front-end loader, and jackhammer is preferred.


Requirements: Must pass CCH background check, medical examination and drug screen; valid Class C Texas driver license.

Description: Performs work necessary for the maintenance and repair of city streets, parking lots, drainage facilities and right-of-ways.
